Our annual wellness programs are designed to prevent disease, maintain quality of life and prolong the lives of our companion animals. We have designed wellness programs for our puppies/kittens, adults and senior pets that focus on their specific needs. During an annual wellness visit, a thorough physical examination is carried out along with specific recommendations for preventive health care and optimum nutrition.
The old adage ‘an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’ is so true when trying to keep our pets healthy. Disease prevention protects your pet from suffering and is always less costly than dealing with treatment. For example, Parvovirus is a very serious life threatening disease in young dogs. Vaccination for this disease provides excellent protection and is always included in puppy and routine vaccinations. Once contracted, there is extensive, expensive care involved with only a percentage of affected dogs surviving.
Annual physical exams allows us to determine general overall health, body score ,oral hygiene, condition of skin and ears and to point out the changes that are occurring each year of life. Owners are given the opportunity to point out things they are concerned about like lumps and bumps, and also to describe any abnormalities they are noticing at home. Often an annual fecal exam is recommended to make sure your pet is free of intestinal parasites.
During an annual visit we are given the opportunity to discuss risk factors that are linked to your pet’s lifestyle and make well informed recommendations for preventive medications, vaccinations, diet and lifestyle changes. Detailed medical records are kept to ensure continuity of care for each individual pet, tracking weight changes and problems over the years.
